Hamburger Pie

1 lb of ground beef
1/2 cup of chopped onion
1 can of green beans drained
1 10-3/4oz. can of condensed tomato soup
3 medium potatoes, peeled and quartered
1 beaten egg
Milk as needed
1/3 cup of shredded American cheese
1/2 cup of water
1/2 tsp. of salt
1/8 tsp. of pepper

Brown the ground beef and onion together in a large skillet. Drain off any fat. Stir in the beans, soup, water, salt and pepper. Spoon the mixture into a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish. In a covered pan, boil the potatoes until they are tender, drain and mash. Stir in the egg and add enough mild to make the potatoes fluffy, yet stiff enough to hold their shape. Season with salt and pepper. Drop the potatoes in mounds atop of the meat mixture. Sprinkle with cheese and bake uncovered at 350 degrees for twenty-five to thirty minutes. This recipe makes enough for six servings.
